WMLIS WELCOMES CHICAGO WOMEN'S TEAM

Chicago, Illinois, August 12, 2024 - After establishing a strong presence with their men's team, the Chicago Mustangs are expanding their horizons by launching a women’s team in the WMLIS.

“We're thrilled to be part of the MLIS' groundbreaking inaugural season for women's soccer,” says the Chicago Mustangs ownership group. “Expanding our involvement beyond the men's team marks a significant step forward for women's sports, and we're eager to elevate the profile of indoor soccer on a broader scale."

The Mustangs previously fielded a women's team that competed in the Premier Arena Soccer League (PASL) and the United Women's Soccer (UWS) league. The team was a dominant force in the PASL, winning the championship title in 2021 and finishing as finalists in 2022. In outdoor play, the Mustangs were crowned UWS National Champions in 2022.

Since the MLIS' announcement on March 12 regarding the women’s league debut for the 2024-25 season, the league has welcomed several teams, including Zoo City FC from Kalamazoo, Mich., Brew City Legends from Milwaukee, Summit City United from Fort Wayne, Ind. and Colorado Bucks from Denver, Colo.

“Our commitment lies in establishing a women-led and women-focused league within the MLIS,” says Dominic Turcotte, MLIS commissioner. “We're enthusiastic about launching a professional indoor soccer platform for female athletes.”
